The Texas class was a 24th century Federation starship type, an automated spacecraft class in Starfleet service in the 2380s decade. The USS Aledo (NA-01) was the first ship of the class. (LD episode: "Trusted Sources")
History and specifics
The class operated under the aegis of Vice Admiral Les Buenamigo. It remained classified until stardate 58496.1 in the year 2381, when the ALedo was deployed to Brekka. The California-class support ships[3] USS Cerritos had visited Brekka as part of Project Swing By and found that the Brekkian planet had been conquered by the Breen. Chel Grett-class interceptors began attacking the Cerritos. Admiral Buenamigo dispatched the Aledo, hoping that the Texas-class automated ship would arrive in time.
The Aledo arrived at Brekka, drawing and evading the fire of the Breen interceptors. The Texas-class ship used its phasers and aft photon torpedo launcher to destroy the Breen ships, saving the Cerritos. The event was recorded from the bridge of the Cerritos by Federation News Network journalist Victoria Nuzé, who was excited by the new ship. Admiral Buenamigo, who appeared on the viewscreen, was happy to announce that the Aledo was the first of three newly declassified Texas-class automated Federation starships. This mission acted as the sea trial for the Aledo. (LD episode: "Trusted Sources")
Buenamigo oversaw the Starfleet project developing autonomous, artificial intelligence-operated starships. He activated prototypes Aledo, USS Dallas (NA-02) and USS Corpus Christi (NA-03) in 2381. Because the AI the ships were programmed with was insane, the Texas class went rogue on stardate 58499.2, killing Buenamigo and attacking Starfleet. A fleet of Cali-class ships engaged the Texas class and destroyed the three prototypes. (LD episode: "The Stars at Night")
In spite of the troubled development and the loss of life, the Texas class was rescued from destruction. Starfleet commissioned the class after converting it into a crewed spacecraft. In the year 2411, the Aledo carried the same registry number NA-01 as its 2380s-era namesake. Starfleet equipped the Aledo and other ships of its class with the V.A.Q. warhead multiple launch system. This weapon launcher fired quantum cluster munition. (STO website: Refractions: Take Over the Texas Class!)
Livery
Texas class variants.
In the 25th century, the design of the Texas-class miracle worker escort allowed its commanding officer to choose from different designs of hull materials, which could be modified further at shipyards. The default hull material was "Nova", which was also the default hull of the Nova-class.
The ship's name and NA or alternative registry number were emblazoned on the hull. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")
Furthermore, the installation of deflector shields from specific factions modified the hull appearance, including shields from the Reman Resistance, the Breen Confederacy and the Dominion. (STO missions: "Coliseum", "Cold Storage", "Boldly They Rode")
