The Proxima-class was a type of Federation starship first built by Starfleet in the mid-23rd century. It was considered to be a battleship and was extremely heavily armed. At some point in early 2270s, it underwent a refit, dubbed the Proxima-II-class by the 2410s, that added updated nacelles, a weapons pod, and well as two additional forward torpedo launchers to the front of the saucer. The original configuration was discontinued after the refit configuration was introduced, while the refit configuration continued being produced into the 24th century. (ST video game: Legacy)
In the early 25th century, a new derivative of the Proxima was introduced, the Pollux-class, and it and its predecessor classes were designated as miracle worker science dreadnoughts. (STO website: Unveiled: The Timeless Legacy Bundle)
