In the mirror universe, the Monitor class was a 25th century Terran Empire starship type, a tier 6-rated Terran miracle worker carrier class in Imperial Starfleet service in the 2410s decade. The ISS Monitor was the first ship equipped with the automated heavy tetryon emitters, a technology of shield disruption emitters. (STO website: Refractions: The 13th Anniversary Terran Bundle!)

In the primary universe, this class was fielded by Federation Starfleet and the Khitomer Alliance. (STO - Shadow's Advance mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

History and technical specifications

The Monitor class was an evolution of the 24th century Nebula-class. The spaceframe consisted of a wide saucer section with an underslung secondary hull. Three pylons extended from the secondary hull, a pair of nacelle pylons holding one rectangular warp nacelle each, and a central pylon extending up that carried a wide mission pod. The mission pod held the hangar bays that housed the Terran Valkyrie-class fighter squadrons. Monitor-class ships' livery and hull components were interchangeable with other iterations of the Nebula-class family. This class had entered service in the 2410s. In the year 2411, the Monitor was among several classes duplicated by the Federation for Starfleet and Khitomer Alliance use in the primary universe. Beside the Monitor, the other classes included the Eagle-class pilot raider, Sirius-class command dreadnought cruiser, Hydra-class intel destroyer, Glenn-class science destroyer and the 23rd century Styx-class dreadnought cruiser. (STO website: Refractions: The 13th Anniversary Terran Bundle!)

The design of the Monitor class reflected the Sutherland-class advanced research vessel, which itself shared cues with the Andromeda-class. (STO website: Agents of Yesterday: Science Modern Bundle Stats)

The ISS Monitor and USS Monitor operated around the time of Terran Emperor Wesley Crusher's quest to control the Other, a powerful extragalactic entity. (STO website: Refractions: The 13th Anniversary Terran Bundle!)

Typically for Imperial Terran starships of its time period, a Monitor-class vessel was equipped with agony phaser beam arrays and a photon torpedo launcher. Specifically, a ship of the class included three forward weapon mounts and three aft. The fore weapons consisted of an agony phaser dual beam bank, photon torpedo launcher and agony phaser beam array. The aft weapons included a photon torpedo launcher and a pair of agony phaser beam arrays. This class could be fitted with dual cannons. The Monitor class was equipped with a shield array, deflector array, impulse engines, matter anti-matter warp core and a cyclical quantum slipstream drive, enabling it to reach impulse, warp, transwarp and quantum slipstream velocities. Cloaking was not an innate ability but could be achieved by installing a cloaking device. The hull was modular and could be modified at shipyards operated by New Romulus Shipyards, Klingon Defense Force Order of Builders and Starfleet Shipyards Operations at Alliance facilities across the Milky Way Galaxy. (STO - Refractions missions: "Explore the Flotilla", "First City", "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Bridge officer stations beyond the commanding officer allowed for a commander pulling double duty as a science officer and miracle worker, a lieutenant commander doubling as temporal operative and officer of any other department, a tactical lieutenant commander, a science officer holding the rank of lieutenant and an engineer ranked as ensign. As a combined carrier and miracle worker ship, the Monitor housed fighter squadrons in its hangar bay coordinated with carrier commands, miracle worker innovation effects, and a science carrier's subsystem targeting. A battle-hardened carrier of this class benefited from quick deployment, armored hull, reactive shield technology, advanced shield systems and, initially unique to the Monitor class, the tachon piercer. This starship trait caused radiation damage to foes. (STO website: Refractions: The 13th Anniversary Terran Bundle!)
