The Repulse class was a 23rd century Federation starship type, a heavy cruiser class in Starfleet service in the 2250s and 2260s decades. In the 2410s, this class revived as a tier 6-rated miracle worker heavy cruiser and Excelsior-class variant, when it was also operated by non-Federation Khitomer Alliance members. Ships of the class were equipped with a transwarp computer. (STO website: House Reborn: The Legendary Excelsior Miracle Worker Heavy Cruiser)
History and technical specifications
23rd century
Starfleet built the USS Repulse primarily as a testbed for technology relying on advances in subspace physics and warp field research. In the 2250s and 2260s, the prototype saw limited service as a top-secret test vehicle. Research on the USS Repulse warp engines inspired more advanced systems on the USS Excelsior.
The experimentation with the Repulse-class systems lasted for decades and culminated in the launch of the Excelsior-class in the 2280s. (STO website: House Reborn: The Legendary Excelsior Miracle Worker Heavy Cruiser)
24th century

In the 2360s, the USS Repulse (NCC-8386) operated as a vessel of this class. This USS Repulse was a hybrid, consisting of the Repulse-class secondary hull, neck, nacelle pylons and warp nacelles, and an Ambassador-class saucer section. In 2366, the Repulse rendezvoused with the Ambassador-class heavy cruiser USS Illinois to welcome Doctor Katherine Pulaski aboard. (LD - Lower Decks comic: "Freeman's Psychosis")
25th century
Miracle worker heavy cruiser classes in 2411.
Starfleet upgraded ship types based on the Excelsior-class in the year 2411, during the time of the Klingon Civil War of 2411, to legendary starship rating. This included the revival of the Repulse class. In starship classification, the upgraded Excelsior-class variants were marked as miracle worker heavy cruisers. All of them were capable of transwarp. Typically for starships of the early 25th century, a Repulse-class vessel was equipped with phaser beam arrays and photon torpedo launchers. It was equipped with a impulse engines, warp core and quantum slipstream drive, enabling it to reach impulse, warp, transwarp and quantum slipstream velocities. Cloaking was not an innate ability but various mechanisms could be installed to serve as a cloaking device. The hull was modular and could be modified at shipyards interfaces operated by New Romulus Shipyards, Klingon Defense Force Order of Builders and Starfleet Shipyards Operations at Alliance facilities across the Milky Way Galaxy. Specifically, a ship of the class included four forward weapon mounts and four aft. Bridge officer stations allowed for a commander on double duty as science officer and intel officer, a lieutenant commander also on double duty in engineering and temporal operations, a tactical commander, an ensign and a lieutenant of any department, respectively. As a miracle worker ship, it included the innovation mechanic and the cyclical quantum slipstream drive; as a cruiser the Repulse was equipped with a cruiser command array. As an Alliance heavy cruiser, a battle-hardened ship benefitted from absorptive plating, rapid repairs, enhanced plating, armored hull and improved weaponized emitters. The Repulse was the first ship equipped with both the Excelsior-class transwarp computer and the tactical maneuvering matrix, which together enabled pursuit mode. Pursuit mode improved the ship's speed and maneuverability. The transwarp console allowed the ship to employ transwarp independently of the Federation transwarp network. The bridge held standard seating for specialized bridge officers, including a tactical officer with the rank of lieutenant commander, a commander pulling double duty as engineer and miracle worker, a lieutenant commander doubling as engineer and pilot, and an ensign and lieutenant of any department.
