A scout was a starship classification for a support ship. These ships have minimal offensive and defensive capabilities, super sensors, and are very maneuverable and fast. In the Klingon and Romulan fleets, scouts are equipped with cloaking devices. (Decipher RPG module: Narrator's Guide)

History and specifics

In the 25th century, the Khitomer Alliance members classified a scout or scout ship as a vessel combining qualities of a science vessel with a raider's. Science vessel capabilities incorporated into scouts included subsystem targeting, sensor analysis and the ability to carry a secondary deflector. Raider elements present in scout ships included the raider flanking combat ability, the ability to carry dual cannons, a comparatively high number of bridge officer stations for officers of any - rather than specific - departments, and generally high maneuverability. In the year 2410, the Lukari contributed the tier 5-rated N'Kaam-class scout ship to the Alliance. (STO website: Emergence: Tzenkethi Lock Box and Lobi Ships Stats!)

The Dranuur-class scout ship was a tier 6-rated ship of joint Lukari-Kentari design based out of Dranuur Colony that served as a modernized, smaller and nimbler counterpart to the Lukari Concordium's Ho'kuun-class science vessel. (STO website: Emergence: Get a Lukari Ship from Your Colony!)

In the same year, the 23rd century Vulcan T'Pau-class entered Alliance service as a T6-rated scout ship. (STO website: Mirror of Discovery: Command the T'Pau Scout Ship!)

Starfleet contributed the Equinox-class pilot scout ship in 2411. This class was an evolution of the 24th century Nova-class short-range science vessel. It combined the scientific focus, short-range research and planetary surveying of the original with the modern need for improved starship speed at impulse velocity and warp speed. These traits derived from pilot starships, which were capable of pilot maneuvers - sudden moved along horizontal directions using the ship's thrusters. The 23rd century Gral-class was relaunched by Starfleet for Alliance service in 2412, rated as a T6 command scout. The Gral class had been built as a small and early hub for command operations. As a 25th century command ship, the Gral could deploy inspiration abilities, i.e. issue commands to nearby allied vessels that boosted their combat performance.
