California is a region of the North American continent on the planet Earth, with boundaries that were created as the area was settled as a geopolitical subdivision of the United States of America nation.

History

On April 3, 1855, Montgomery Scott materialized in southern California via the use of the time travel cabinet. He appeared within a stagecoach just before it was robbed. He joined Billy Clancey and his outlaw gang in order to track down a stolen weapon called the N-cycle bomb, but Clancey stole Scott's phaser and used it to attack a wagon train. The trail for the bomb dead-ended with a patent medicine salesman in a frontier town, and then Scott was returned to 2266.

On April 3, 1955, James T. Kirk materialized in southern California one hundred years later on the same spot as Scott. He appeared in a movie production being shot on location in a desert. Kirk was filmed as he pursued time traveler Andres on a highway on ancient Roman chariots by Hollywood director Bovrille. Kirk returned Andres and the N-cycle bomb to 2266. (TOS comic: "A Bomb in Time")

In 2024, California Governor Robert Chen ordered National Guard troops to storm the San Francisco Sanctuary District during the Bell Riots. (DS9 episode: "Past Tense, Part II")

In 2155, Trip Tucker compared Ych'a's description of Achernar II to Gold Rush era California or the Yukon Territory. (ENT - The Romulan War novel: Beneath the Raptor's Wing)

James T. Kirk thought of Vulcan as being like southern California, but with less rain. (TOS novel: Spock's World)

Thomas Eugene Paris was born in Portola Valley, California, in 2346. (VOY novels: Mosaic, Pathways)

In 2375, California's government declared San Francisco a disaster area at the request of the city's mayor after the Breen attack. (TNG short story: "Eleven Hours Out")

Starfleet Command, Starfleet Academy, and Starfleet Medical Academy are located in the city of San Francisco, California.
