Atlanta is an Earth city located within the state of Georgia, which is part of the United States of America. It is the capital city of Georgia and has been a major city in the southeastern United States for hundreds of years.

History and specifics

General William T. Sherman set fire to Atlanta in mid-November 1864. As a member of Sherman's forces, Thaddius Riker noted it in his personal journals. William T. Riker later recalled that it was a turning point in the American Civil War, crippling Confederate supply efforts. (TLE novel: Deny Thy Father)

The city served as the home of the Atlanta Constitution news service. (TOS novel: Provenance of Shadows)

Martin Luther King, Jr. was born in Atlanta, and began his career as a preacher and civil rights leader there.

Prior to joining the MACO unit attached to the Enterprise (NX-01) in mid-2153, Nelson Kemper was stationed outside Atlanta. Kemper remarked to Hoshi Sato that there were no Denobulans in Atlanta but did get its fair share of alien visitors. (ENT novelization: The Expanse)

Alternate realities

In 1932 of an alternate reality in which Leonard McCoy saved the life of Edith Keeler, McCoy boarded a boxcar on a train in Richmond, Virginia that was en route to Atlanta. He ended up having to jump off in Hayden, South Carolina when he was attacked by two migrants over food. Later, Keeler's American Peace Movement grew strong enough to delay the United States' entry into World War II. In 1941, McCoy confronted her in Atlanta, trying to convince her of the need to fight, to no avail. Atlanta was later destroyed in 1954 by a Nazi nuclear bomb. In a timeline created by the Na'kuhl, during World War II Germany invaded and occupied portions of the eastern United States. In 1944, Atlanta remained an American holding on an invasion status map. (ENT episode: "Storm Front")

In an alternate reality in which Khan Noonien Singh won the Eugenics Wars, Atlanta was one of numerous cities he destroyed with atomic bombs. (ST - Myriad Universes - Infinity's Prism novella: Seeds of Dissent)

In fiction

In the novel The Final Reflection, Klingon Captain Krenn, his XO Akhil, and Ambassador Dr. Emanuel Tagore arrived in Atlanta aboard a maglev train. An identical train departed at the same time they arrived at the underground station to mask their arrival, so that Krenn and Akhil could meet privately with Maxwell Grandisson III, Commodore Amos Blakeslee, Samuel Landers, and Thomas Jackson McCoy.
