Beijing (formerly referred to as Peking) was a large city in the nation-state of China on Earth. Various starships were named after the city.

History

Doctor Changming Weng of Project Hercules was born in Peking in 1938. (ST - Star Trek: Assignment: Earth comic: "Brighter Than a Thousand Suns")

United States President Richard Nixon paid a diplomatic visit Beijing in 1972, unwittingly accompanied by Gary Seven and Roberta Lincoln. (ST - Star Trek: Assignment: Earth comic: "Too Many Presidents")

When Q asked Spock for nine reasons to save humanity from an approaching asteroid in 1999, his sixth item was the construction of Beijing's Imperial City, Stonehenge, and the Great Pyramids. (ST audiobook: Spock vs. Q)

During World War III, smaller partial detonations occurred over Beijing. (ST short story: "The Immortality Blues")

In the 23rd century, the brothers Lao Zhiming and Lao Qixhu grew up in Beijing in the 2230s and 2240s. While Zhiming joined Starfleet, Qixhu, who suffered from Pelleter's syndrome, worked under the auspices of Assist Services. Their parents also lived in Beijing. Later in life, Ensign Lao remembered snowfall in Beijing and going to school, while Qixhu stayed behind unable to understand why he could not join his brother.

In 2374, a Cardassian surgically altered to appear Human was discovered by Starfleet in Beijing. She had been subjected to Mindur Timot's Obsidian Order procedure to erase her mind and give her new memories. (DS9 novel: Hollow Men)

In the mirror universe, Beijing was one of the cities devastated in a brazen attack by alien rebels against the Terran Empire in 2155.
