Rice pilaf, a.k.a. plantation rice, was a traditional cuisine popular in the southern United States on Earth.

History and specifics

Doctor Leonard McCoy was fond of plantation rice, and kept a recipe made with Spanish saffron, water, pistachio and pine nuts, raisins, rice, chicken broth, butter, nutmeg, and salt.

In the 2260s decade, he passed along the recipe to Nurse Christine Chapel, who adapted it to be served by the USS Enterprise's food processors. (TOS reference: Official Cooking Manual)
