The pulse phaser beam array was a 23rd century century Federation directed energy weapons emitter, a phaser beam array type in Starfleet service in the latter half of the century. Unlike baseline phaser beam arrays, pulse phaser beam arrays exhibited the characteristic that reduced a target's hull resistance while temporarily increasing the firer's. A phaser beam array fired phaser energy at a target, dealing an average amount of damage. This beam array had a 250° firing arc. Compared to other energy weapon types, phaser space weapons had a chance of knocking a subsystem out. Pulse phasers beam arrays fired thin, high-speed red bolts and beams. The Advanced Starship Design Bureau upgraded Starfleet as part of the Total Modification Programme in the 2270s decade. Ships upgraded under this program included the Kerala-class. (STO website: Unveiled: The 15th Anniversary Starship Bundle)

The Kerala class and fellow upgraded classes were equipped with pulse phaser beam arrays and standard photon torpedo launchers. Additionally, the broadside combat module aboard the USS Kerala fired pulse phaser beams. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")
