The Nakan system's orbit was the location of a planetary system, including Nakan, the homeworld of the Nakan civilization. The system was located in the center of a triangle formed by the Tarakis system, Orlitus Cluster and Oprisay Nebula. (ST reference: Star Charts)
At some point before the 2370s decade, the Nakan colonized the planet Tarakis. Disputes with the colonists led to a massacre. The survivors erected a mind-altering memorial on the surface of Tarakis. (VOY episode: "Memorial")
The Federation starship USS Voyager visited the Tarakis system on stardate 53590 in the year 2376. Voyager passed the Nakan system in a distance of circa 20 lightyears while en route to the Brunal system. (ST reference: Star Charts)
