Medusa was a monster character from the Greek mythology of the planet Earth. According to myth, she was created by the goddess Athena/Minerva and killed by the hero Perseus.
Biography
She was known for having snakes for hair, a frightening appearance, and if anyone looked at her, she could turn them into stone statues. (SKR novel: Point of Divergence)
In Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy poem Inferno, three gorgons guarded the gates of Dis and hoped Medusa would emerge. In the poem, she did not. (TOS - Who Killed Captain Kirk? comic: "Hell in a Handbasket")
