In the primary universe, a Chimeran was cybernetically-enhanced organic lifeform first encountered by the Borg Cooperative aboard the extradimensional Aetherian Concordium starship Harmony in the year 2411. (STO - Kings & Queens mission: "Axiom")

Biology

The Chimeran specimen held captive aboard the Harmony was a hybrid of organic features and Borg technology, which included a large, round torso covered with fur and hairless skin sections as well as spikes and bone-like structures and with no discernible head. This specimen had four long limbs and could run quickly on all fours. (STO - Kings & Queens mission: "Axiom")

Multiple Chimerans encountered by the Khitomer Alliance followed this body plan. (STO - Kings & Queens mission: "Best Laid Plans")

History

The Chimeran in.

The Chimeran fleet warps in.

When Hugh, Director of the Borg Cooperative and the Borg Reclamation Project, was abducted by Leader Thaseen-Fei on her Aetherian dreadnought in the year 2411, his translator caught her speaking of a Chimeran specimen. A Khitomer Alliance away team led by Admirals Kuumaarke and the Other liberated Hugh from an Aetherian assimilation pod when the Chimeran specimen exploded from another pod and, evading hand-held weapon's fire by jumping and running quickly, the specimen escaped elsewhere into the lower decks. (STO - Kings & Queens mission: "Axiom")

A Chimeran boarded a Tzenkethi battle station operated by Tzenkethi rebels in the 13 Ceti system. It crawled along the ceiling and tampered with the space station's protomatter supply with assimilation tubules extending from its arm. The protomatter was seized by Admiral Kuumaarke of the LSS Reskava. During a skirmish with a Borg cube, the protomatter device was floating in open space, and Captain Neth Parr of the Tzenkethi Coalition advised Kuumaarke to use the device against the Borg. When the Alliance destabilized the protomatter, the Borg cube was caught in the explosion and was terraformed by the mutated protomatter. The Chimeran cube's hull became irregular and covered in magenta, shining vines before warping out of the system. According to Kuumaarke, nobody had ever terraformed a Borg cube before. Following the departure of the allies, the Tzenkethi battle station was assimilated, displaying magenta lights and vines as well as Borg metal hull panels. Captain Parr called it a strange 'fungal creep'. (STO - Kings & Queens mission: "All That Matter")

The leaders of the Alliance were puzzled by the nature of the mysterious Chimerans. (STO - Kings & Queens short story: "Above All Else")

Following the battle between the Alliance flagships with the Harmony in the system containing the MIDAS Array, a flotilla of Chimeran Borg ships warped in next to the damaged Harmony. In the aftermath, the Alliance quarantined the MIDAS Array system and considered their actions following the capture of the Harmony by the Chimerans. The Chimeran ships were segmented, losing the overall geometric shape of typical Borg ships, and were covered in organic material. They glowed magenta when they emerged from warp. One of the Chimeran spheres emitted a signal upon arrival. (STO - Kings & Queens mission: "Best Laid Plans")
