Catulla (also spelt Catualla, and known indigenously as Cendo-Prae) was the sixth planet in the Theta Pictoris star system, the homeworld of the Catullan civilization and was a member of the United Federation of Planets since 2185. (ST reference: Star Charts)

History and specifics

Catulla was similar in mass to Earth and had two moons, Milon and Milar. By the mid-24th century the Catullan population numbered 9.5 million and had built a huge industrial network covering the planet. The continent of Tesakar was home to the Harrell Hullworks, one of the Federation's leading manufacturers of warp-capable spacecraft hulls. Harrell also maintained a construction facility in geosynchronous orbit directly above its planet-side facilities.

In their distant history the Catullans fought a massive nuclear war which wiped out their knowledge and culture. They struggled for centuries to rebuild their civilization. (ST reference: The Worlds of the Federation)

Catulla applied for Federation membership in 2269. Negotiations were at a critical stage on stardate 5832.3 when the USS Enterprise apprehended the stolen starship Aurora, whose passengers included Tongo Rad, son of Catullan ambassador Tongo Sil. Catulla was one of five planets visited by the Enterprise during a mission in 2270. (TOS board game: The Final Frontier)

John Harriman and Amina Sasine went spelunking in the bottomless ice caves of this planet at some point prior to 2311. (TLE novel: Serpents Among the Ruins)

In the late-2360s Kuri Dennings and her brother Tosh went on a fishing holiday on Catualla. Their refrigeration unit malfunctioned causing their catch to freeze into blocks of lumpy grey ice they called ichtysicles. (DS9 - Avatar novel: Book One)

Spelling

Catulla appears to be the slightly more common spelling of the name of the planet, Catualla was used in The Star Trek Encyclopedia and DS9 novel: Avatar. The native name, Cendo-Prae, has only been used in The Worlds of the Federation
