Talek was a mythological creature that was known to the Cardassian civilization.
The legends of Talek stated that it was a large monster with one eye which consumed everything it saw which became the source of inspiration for the black hole in Cardassian Union space called the Eye of Talek. (TNG - The Dominion War novel: Behind Enemy Lines)
