Lily Sloane fires a Machine gun at Data in 2063.
A machine gun was a fully-automatic projectile weapon, available mounted or as a portable firearm, usually designed to fire cartridges of projectiles in quick succession from an ammunition belt or large-capacity magazine, typically at a rate of several hundred rounds per minute.
History and specifics
During World War II, mounted machine gun turrets defended bomber aircraft such as the Vickers Wellington. In the 2260s, James T. Kirk fired the turrets aboard a Wellington while escaping from a museum and three attacking Supermarine Spitfires. (TOS comic: "The Collector")
In 1986, military personnel assigned to Area 51 had a variety of machine guns available. (TOS novel: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh, Volume 1)
"Machine Gun" could be used as a nickname, either for a person known to use a machine gun or in a more metaphoric manner for someone known for rapid actions. Boxer Kid McCook was sometimes referred to as "Machine Gun", presumably due to a propensity to deliver punches at a fast-pace. (DS9 episode: "Past Tense, Part II")
