MAJOR SPOILERS
WARNING! This article contains MAJOR spoilers for the recently released episode Vox In Excelso. Caution is advised.

The Ketha class was a 25th century Klingon starship type, a tier 6-rated recon raptor in Klingon Defense Force service from the 2410s decade. Alongside Starfleet's Lafayette-class recon destroyer, the Ketha raptor was the first ship class in Khitomer Alliance service equipped with hyper-focusing trinary arrays. (STO website: Victory Is Life: Announcing the Recon Destroyer Bundle!)

This class was named after the Ketha Province on Qo'noS, home of General Martok. (STO website: Victory Is Life: Recon Destroyer Bundle Stats!)

In the 32nd century, the Ketha class was operated by the Great Houses of the Klingon diaspora. (SA episode: "Vox In Excelso")

Technical specifications

The Ketha class was derived from the Klingon raptor of the 22nd century. Its hull featured a skeletal flair, reminiscent of mid-23rd century Klingon starship types that took part in the Battle of the Binary Stars in the year 2256. The Ketha design incorporated the mission pods present on its Starfleet counterpart, the contemporary Lafayette class and the 24th century New Orleans-class. The KDF conceived the recon raptor as a stealthy escort with science capabilities and as a powerful warship that could cloak, mount dual cannons and an experimental weapon alongside the hyper-focusing trinary arrays special weapon. (STO website: Victory Is Life: Announcing the Recon Destroyer Bundle!)

Typically for KDF starships of its time period, a Ketha-class vessel was equipped with unrated disruptor beam arrays and photon torpedo launchers. Specifically, it carried a disruptor beam array, photon torpedo launcher, disruptor dual cannons and disruptor dual heavy cannons in the fore; another disruptor beam array and a pair of photon torpedo launcher in the aft weapon emplacements; plus the experimental hyperexcited ion stream projector experimental weapon. Additional standard equipment included shield array, deflector array, impulse engines and matter anti-matter warp core. The hyper-focusing trinary array was a type of universal console technology. Cloaking was an innate ability thanks to the standard cloaking device incorporated into the hull. In the 25th century, the impulse engines, warp core and quantum slipstream drive enabled a ship of this class to reach impulse, warp, transwarp and quantum slipstream velocities. The hull was modular and could be modified at shipyards operated by New Romulus Shipyards, Klingon Defense Force Order of Builders, Starfleet Shipyards Operations and Dominion Vanguard Fleet at 25th century Khitomer Alliance facilities across the Milky Way Galaxy. (STO - Victory Is Life missions: "The Hunt is On", "Welcome to Earth Spacedock", "Explore the Flotilla", "Ceremony")

In the 2410s, the Ketha class was classified as a recon raptor, combining the experimental weapon emplacement of a raptor escort with the starship traits of a destroyer. As an Alliance destroyer, a battle-hardened ship benefitted from precise weapons systems, enhanced weapon banks, devastating weaponry, enhanced weapon systems and, first seen with the IKS Ketha and USS Lafayette, jubilant cadence. This starship trait temporarily boosted the ship's sublight speeds and turn rate after defeating an opponent. Bridge officer stations beyond the commanding officer included a tactical commander, a science officer holding the rank of lieutenant commander, a lieutenant commander doubling as intelligence officer and officer of any other department, an engineering lieutenant and a tactical officer ranking as ensign. (STO website: Victory Is Life: Recon Destroyer Bundle Stats!)

Service history

The class was entered service around the time of the Hur'q Crisis, a war between reawakened Hur'q and the Dominion, in 2411. (STO - Gamma Quadrant mission: "Storm Clouds Gather")

In the 32nd century, the Ketha class was operated by the surviving Houses of the Klingon diaspora. Following the devastation of Qo'noS and other Klingon worlds[5], the Klingon species was facing extinction. In a mock battle between Starfleet and the Klingon diaspora, the Klingons won the rights to settle Faan Alpha. (SA episode: "Vox In Excelso")
