The IGS Chimesh, also known as the USS Chimesh, was a 25th century Andorian-built Federation starship, a tier 6-rated Chimesh-class pilot escort in Andorian Guard and Starfleet service from the 2410s decade. As part of the Allied pilot escort project, the Andorian pilot escort Chimesh, LRS Nemosin and DWS Ikkabar were the first vessels equipped with the gateway trap spawner special weapon. Around 2409, Starfleet and the Andorians operated a series of tier 5-rated Andorian escorts based on the 22nd century Kumari-class battlecruiser. (STO website: New Romulus: Andorian Escorts - Kumari Line)
During the Tzenkethi Crusade of 2410, members of the Khitomer Alliance worked on projects that shared their shipbuilding practices, leading to a new breed of pilot starships. As Federation members, the Andorian Empire provided three Allied pilot escort classes to Starfleet and the Alliance, led by the Chimesh, IGS Kuthar and IGS Thozyn, respectively. The Chimesh served as the science-oriented variant among the Andorian pilot escorts and shared its capabilities with the Lethean Nemosin and the Dewan-inspired Ikkabar of the Romulan Republic. The three Allied pilot escorts were equipped with the gateway trap spawner, a universal console-operated special weapon that generated an Iconian gateway that damaged nearby opponents during space combat. From 2410 onwards, the Chimesh represented its class on the shipyards interfaces operated by New Romulus Shipyards, Klingon Defense Force Order of Builders, Dominion Vanguard Fleet and Starfleet Shipyards Operations at Khitomer Alliance facilities across the Milky Way Galaxy.
