Hypermass was a scientific concept referring to an object with high mass, or exerting strong gravital attraction. In the 25th century, the Romulan singularity drive was a type of hypermass. Hypermasses could serve as wormhole conduits to other spaces. (STO - Emergence short story: "Lingua Iconia")

History and specifics

The starships of the Romulan Republic used singularity drives instead of engines based around a matter anti-matter warp core. In 2410, the engineer Vrosik explained to her colleague Callius that singularity drive of the RRW Rheuvnen was a type of hypermass. During a malfunction that send Obelisk swarmers rogue, Vrosik used the singularity core of the Rheuvnen to simulate an Iconian gateway and trick the swarmer]s to stand down. During the Tzenkethi Crusade of 2410, battles between the Khitomer Alliance and Tzenkethi Coalition forces took place at a black hole identified as microquasar hypermass. (STO - Task Force Operation mission: "Gravity Kills")

In 2411, the Khitomer Alliance used a projectile weapon technology known as a dimensional hypermass torpedo.
