A garbat was an animal, presumably native to Klingon space.

History and specifics

Scrag is the name given to the roasted haunch of garbat, marinated in its own blood and seasoned with ten different spices. According to Beverly Crusher, scrag was the highest achievement of Klingon culinary arts, but the Human digestive system could not handle it. Eating replicated scrag gave William T. Riker a terrible bellyache. (TNG novel: Debtors' Planet)
