Essai was a planet, the only remaining world in the Essaian system and the homeworld of the Essaian civilization. It was located within a rudimentary Dyson sphere in "the Triangle" of the Federation-Klingon Neutral Zone in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants.
History and specifics
Essai's mineral content consisted of 27% normal metals, 3% radioactives, and 5% gemstones, but had no dilithium deposits. Surface features included oceans, hills, mountains, cliffs and deserts. Its civilization rated 677452-55 on the technological/sociopolitical index, its government having been unified under a monarchy.
If the planet ever had a moon, it would have been pulverized in the 17th century along with all other orbital bodies in the system in order to build the Barrier of Essai, a spherical wall to block radiation when Beta Origii went supernova.
