A K class (also K type or orange star) is a type of star that is made up of neutral metals. The temperature is around 3,500 through 5,000 degrees Kelvin. (ST reference: Star Charts)

History and specifics

Type K0 V stars are 0.4 times as bright as Sol. Their habitable zone ranges from 0.49-0.83 AU and are 3-18 billion years old. Type K5 V stars are 0.1 times as bright as Sol and have 0.6 times its mass. Their habitable zone ranges from 0.25-0.42 AU and are 4-24 billion years old. (Decipher RPG module: Worlds)

In the language of the Vostigye and their Union, this type of star was called a Mol-class star. In August 2374, the Union patrol craft Ryemaran encountered a refugee Casciron vessel who claimed to have mixed up a star they approached with the one a border outpost was located at. In an alternate timeline where Harry Kim served aboard the Ryemaran, the lieutenant mixed up the K-class with the Mol-class designation when he discussed the situation with Captain Azorav Nagorim.
