"Unfathom" is a Waypoint comic set in The Next Generation's first season, published in Waypoint Special 2019. The story focused on Beverly Crusher and Natasha Yar.
Summary
Crusher and Yar discuss visiting the freighter Orpheus, which had asked for a doctor. Crusher promises if it's not for a medical emergency, she'll cook them dinner. They land in its shuttle bay aboard the shuttlepod Pike and are greeted by two members of the crew. They explain that although a CO and many other crew are listed on the manifest, they don't recall any of them ever having been aboard. They say everyone's on edge because of their cargo: a prototype space saver, which stores cargo in a dimensional pocket outside of the prime reality.
They show Crusher the space saver, and when she touches it, she disappears. Yar asks why the device is operating if they only have permits to transport it, and encourages them to confess what they've done, since Captain Jean-Luc Picard sent her there alone to find out what happened to their missing crew.
Meanwhile, inside the space saver Crusher meets all of the missing crew, including Piper Baring, the ship's CO. Baring explains that an engineer accidentally activated the device, and since then it has slowly been capturing ship's personnel. Once something is taken out of the universe, it goes missing, including peoples' memories of it. When the dimensional pocket's edges contact the Orpheus, captured people can interact somewhat with reality. Because the crew have forgotten the people inside, however, knocking on walls probably makes the ship seem haunted. Crusher realizes that not every trace of them was erased, since their names were on the manifest. The next time it's possible to interact with the ship, the captured personnel work together, writing "I'm cooking" on the cargo bay floor.
Yar sees the message, recalls her conversation with Crusher, and realizes what's happened. Quickly they open the space saver, and the captured crew are freed. Yar has the cargo bay sealed and the ship placed in quarantine until protocols are developed to investigate further.
Crusher says there's still one problem: she's not a good cook.
