The USS Devon was a Brenton-class Federation cruiser starship in service to Starfleet in the late 23rd century.

Service history

As a Brenton-class ship, it was one of 185 built, and would have entered service on or after reference stardate 2/1404. (FASA RPG module: Federation Ship Recognition Manual)

In the 2280s, Starfleet assigned the Devon and three smaller ships to defend against increasing attacks on Federation shipping along the frontier of the Triangle. They came to the aid of a freighter convoy under attack by two Orion blockade runners, which split up and fled. Two escorts remained with the convoy while a destroyer captured the blockade runner Asheakadh and Devon pursued her quarry into an asteroid field in the Kalf system near the planet Workday. A planetoid fragment struck Devon, shearing off a warp nacelle and causing heavy damage to life support and engineering.

Captain Travis sent his engineer Alain DuPont in a shuttle to get clear of the asteroid field and transmit a distress call to Starfleet. Meanwhile, Travis was forced to surrender the disabled Devon to save the lives of his crew. A handful of vessels towed Devon to a drydock at the nearby Workday starport, where personnel were offloaded and repairs initiated.

In order to prevent Devon from being used as an Orion warship, Commodore Konstantine Spiravos organized a covert mission one month later to sneak into the starport and trigger an overload in Devon's remaining nacelle. (FASA RPG module: Orion Rising)

Devon was destroyed in the subsequent blast, which also caused significant damage to the starport and at least one Ohmera-class Orion patrol ship. (Stardate Magazine vol. 2, Issue 10: "Ohmera Class Patrol Ship")
