"The Circle" is an episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. It first aired in October 1993 as the part of the second season.
Transferred from Deep Space 9, Kira Nerys spends time at Vedek Bareil's monastery, where she is kidnapped by the Circle. Meanwhile, the crew attempt to find out where the Circle is obtaining its weapons. (part 2 of 3)
Summary
Replaced by Li Nalas, Major Kira accepts Vedek Bareil’s invitation to visit his monastery. Bareil allows her to use an orb and tells Kira his own recent orb experience in which he saw her was the reason he invited her.
On Deep Space 9, Quark tells Odo that the Circle are receiving weapons from the Kressari, so Odo stows away on a Kressari ship to find evidence. He learns that the Cardassians are using the Kressari as intermediaries.
Sisko visits Bajor to warn Kira that the Bajoran government could soon be toppled by a coup, but before Kira can return to Deep Space 9, she is kidnapped by the Circle. She meets Minister Jaro, who reveals that he is the leader of the Circle. Commander Sisko leads a rescue mission to recover Kira.
Minister Jaro orders the Federation to leave Deep Space 9, and dispatches three assault ships, but Sisko realises that the Cardassians will use the opportunity to re-occupy Bajor. Admiral Chekote orders Sisko to evacuate, but Sisko disobeys orders and plans to stay behind.

Appendices
Background
- "The Circle" is the second part of the first three-part Star Trek episode. The story began in "The Homecoming" and concludes in "The Siege".
- A new Bajoran Militia rank insignia was devised for Li Nalas in his position as navarch of the Bajoran forces. No equivalency with any other rank was established but it appeared to be an intermediate between the ranks of major and a grade of colonel in the rank insignia hierarchy.
