Rex Gunther was a 22nd century Human man, a flag officer best known for drawing the line against Romulan piracy and delivering Earth's ultimatum to the Romulans prior to the start of the Earth-Romulan War.

Biography

In the 2150s decade, Admiral Gunther commanded the 150th Combat Squadron. On reference stardate 1/0606.16, his squadron encountered a U13 class cruiser at Eta Leonis VI. He obeyed standard orders provided by Councillor Crisofur Thorpe and sent a message via subspace radio to the U13 that the Romulans had six months to cease their pirate activities or Earth would declare war. Gunther allowed the U13 to depart the area without incident, the only time that decade that Romulan and Earth vessels met peacefully. He then assigned the Marshall-class USS Patton to remain in the area and await a response. (FASA RPG module: The Romulan War)

Background

The Romulan conflict presented in Spaceflight Chronology and FASA RPG was set some 19 years after the Federation's founding, and was fought between it and the Romulan Empire. In light of later canonical information, this is assumed to be against the precursor Coalition of Planets instead with forces of United Earth Starfleet, rather than the United Nations Solar Fleet.
