A puppet is an object designed to mimic the appearance, and some possible movements modeled after a lifeform, often a humanoid lifeform. A simple puppet can be used for entertainment or more complex forms can be used to create a deception.

Mark McHenry once made a hand puppet out of one of his socks, calling it "Mark's sark" or "Mock's sock". (TNG - Starfleet Academy novel: Worf's First Adventure)
