Orna was a planet, the second planet of the Iota Trianguli system, located within the the galaxy's Alpha Quadrant in the Trianguli sector. It was the homeworld of the advancing non-humanoid Ornae civilization.
History and specifics
Orna was a borderline class M planet about twice Earth's size that appeared greenish-blue from orbit. It had an Earth-like atmosphere. It was predominantly desert, with scattered oases and dust storms, while most life concentrated around its one large ocean. Surface features included active volcanoes, evaporated salt seas, blue-colored sandstone canyons, valleys, caverns, and mountains, some of which were prone to landslides.
By the 2270s decade, the world had been charted and mapped by the Federation, but official first contact had not been made. Several Free Traders had visited the planet and considered Ornae to be brilliant tool makers, according to Jane's Interstellar Gazetteer and System Catalogue. "Orna" was the natives' own name for the planet.
In 2274, Ornae aided a Starfleet starship that had been marooned near the planet.
In 2285, Orna was incorporated into a new version of the Kobayashi Maru scenario. Visiting the planet was intended as a trial mission to familiarize cadets with their ship, the USS Sans Souci, as well as its computer and crew. (TOS video game: The Kobayashi Alternative)
