The array was a centuries-old Nacene space station class, a type of array constructed in the Delta Quadrant following the ecological devastation of Ocampa V by the extragalactic Nacene to preserve the Ocampa. (VOY episode & novelization: Caretaker)

Technical specifications

The Caretaker's array was several kilometers tall and wide. It operated for over 500 generations as counted in Ocampan lifespans by the year 2371. (TOSC Issue Special 30: "Caretaker's Array")

The Caretaker lived alone on his array in the 2370s. His station was capable of pulling starships from across the galaxy to the Ocampa system. (VOY episode & novelization: Caretaker)

Suspiria's array, established less than 300 years before 2372, was one-tenth the size of the original array. It housed 300 Ocampa in the 21st century and 2000 by 2372. (VOY episode: "Cold Fire")

The array consisted of a central module, with extensions above and below. Petal-like panels extended were attached around the station. (TOSC Issue Special 30: "Caretaker's Array")

Service history

The Caretaker's array supplied the subterranean Ocampa city with energy following the devastation of the Ocampan homeworld. In 2371, the Caretaker died. To prevent the Kazon from seizing the array and its technology, Captain Kathryn Janeway of the Federation starship USS Voyager} ordered the array destroyed. (VOY episode & novelization: Caretaker)

Voyager encountered Suspiria's array in 2372. Suspiria had left her mate, the Caretaker, but held Voyager responsible for his death. Voyager departed from Suspiria's array without being returned home by Suspiria. (VOY episode: "Cold Fire")

Alternate timeline

In an alternate timeline beset by the Q Continuum's temporal anomaly crisis, the 2371-era Caretaker Array was pulled into the orbit of Omicron Theta around 2380. (ST video game: Timelines)
