The Metans were an advanced humanoid species native to Meta IV.
History and specifics
Being unaware of offworld civilizations in space, the Metans thought they were the only life in the galaxy, and developed a religious identity as "the Chosen" people. When a starship crashed, they gained subspace communications technology that revealed a plethora of offworld species in the galaxy that contradicted their faith. Denying the evidence, they believed what they heard were representations of evil, and they set out to pit the other races against each other in wars.
Julia Bertrand left her world to obtain an education in diplomacy where she could serve as a spy for her government while acting as a Federation ambassador. Metan starships were fashioned to replicate the energy signatures of Federation, Klingon, and Romulan vessels.
