Margolis was a 23rd century Human man. He was a science officer who served aboard the Federation starship USS Enterprise in the 2260s under the command of Captain James T. Kirk.
Biography
In the year 2268, Margolis was part of the scientific contingent who beamed down to conduct a survey of Octavius IV, along with Commander Spock, Ensign Selena Karras, Ellis, Ferriter, and Owens. Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu took Margolis, Ellis, and Ferriter with him to explore a green ridge not far from the beam-down point. Kirk soon ordered Sulu's group to quickly head back in order to avoid a dangerous creature sited in the area. They arrived to find a cave-in pit at the exact spot Kirk called them from. When Ferriter determined the missing crew might be buried alive, Margolis pointed out that the creature might be down there as well. He worried that the creature might surprise them and climb out right in front of them.
Margolis and the others began clearing debris to conduct a search when Commander Montgomery Scott halted their efforts, having been ordered to abandon any lost crewmates so the Enterprise could respond to a distress call in another system. (TOS novel: Legacy)
