A lock box, or lock box, was a 25th century secured container, a box carrying goods and protected by a lock that required a master key to open. In the 2400s and 2410s, lock boxes were common wares traded by the Ferengi Lobi Crystal Consortium to Khitomer Alliance personnel. Lock boxes could contain items far larger than itself, like starships. (STO - New Romulus mission: "Unlocking the Box")
History and specifics
From the year 2409 onwards, the Ferengi trader Grym had acquired lock boxes and keys from Quark's private supply and kept them hidden from the Lobi Crystal Consortium. Grym offered them to Starfleet and allied personnel on Earth Spacedock, and Klingon Defense Force and affiliated staff in the First City on Qo'noS, respectively. To avoid attention by Commander Danz, Grym offered the personnel access to a hacked Ferengi lock box and hacked master keys. They were hidden from the Consortium on Drozana Station in the Donatu sector of the Eta Eridani sector block. When opened, Grym's lock boxes revealed packed up deflectors, personal armor and a dual system consumable. (STO - New Romulus mission: "Unlocking the Box")
In 2410, Ambassador Quark and Captain Nog found a lock box among the trophies kept by T'Ket of Iconia aboard her flagship. The Ferengi wondered what valuables T'Ket's unopened box may contain. (STO - Gamma Quadrant mission: "Quark's Lucky Seven")
