A jet pack, rocket pack or thruster pack was a propulsion device designed to be worn by a humanoid, with multi-directional thrusters mounted on it to facilitate flight or spacewalks.

History and specifics

In the year 2020, NASA put EVA maneuvering units aboard the USS Lewis & Clark for the astronauts to use with their spacesuits. (TOS novel: The Rings of Time)

In the 2250s decade, Starfleet Academy's Disaster Relief Service Club equipped rescuers with jetpacks to aid in dangerous rescues. Cadets Lisa Donald, Spock, and Leonard McCoy wore them during rescue operations on Playamar in December 2250. In San Francisco, a minor earthquake in San Francisco dislodged McCoy off a fire ladder during a training exercise, and Donald flew up to him wearing a jet pack to reattach his safety line.
