Gim was a Karimean man, a creative mechanical genius who was a member of The Worthy.

Biography

Gim served as chief engineer of the Worthy's starship during their various journeys through the years in the 20th century, including visits to Rimbor, Eferer, Zephoid III, Traal, and Delarian. At one point, Apollo marooned him and his crew on the lifeless planet Claneia I. Eventually, he and Enaaj became attracted to each other, but he tended to prioritize his work ahead of spending time together. By the 1960s, Gim and the surviving crew went into suspended animation aboard the ship. (TOS - The Return of the Worthy comics: "Great Expectations!", "Tomorrow Never Knows!")

He and the others then spent 325 years in stasis, to be revived by Dr. Leonard McCoy aboard the USS Enterprise-A in 2288. Enterprise Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott noted in his personal log that Gim could probably make a warp engine out of a rubber band and two nails. (TOS - The Return of the Worthy comic: "A Rude Awakening!")

Tasked with repairing his ship, which had been damaged from the passage of centuries, Gim accepted Scotty's help. He learned about warp drive, and worked to adapt it to his vessel's propulsion system. (TOS - The Return of the Worthy comic: "Great Expectations!")

The Enterprise returned the Worthy to their homeworld, only to discovered that a recent war had annihilated their entire civilization. He said he'd rather tear his eyes out than look at the destruction. He was distraught, but after spending time drinking with Scotty he realized that he shouldn't take Enaaj for granted any longer, and he told her how much he cared for her.

Within a couple of days, he'd finished repairing their ship, and he was able to send them off at warp three. (TOS - The Return of the Worthy comic: "Tomorrow Never Knows!")
