Engor was a Cardassian gul.

History

During the Federation-Cardassian War, Gul Engor planned an assault on Starfleet forces on Zaldon IV and helped devise strategies to counter the native resistance on Bajor. As a consequence of these latter actions, he became a target for the Bajoran Underground when his people occupied their homeworld. Despite this, however, members of the resistance considered Engor to be an honourable foe and following his retirement from service, the strategist became a proponent for the reconciliation of Cardassia and Bajor, believing their two civilisations shared the common ground to become allies, despite the scars inflicts to both sides. In 2371, the Maquis extremist Aela attempted to assassinate Gul Engor when he visited Deep Space 9, hoping to reignite the previous war. Engor was saved by Ro Laren and the Deep Space 9 crew.
