An engineering suit was a specialized type of clothing used to protect the wearer from the dangerous environment of certain areas of engineering on starships.

History and specifications

In the 2260s, Starfleet-issue engineering suits included a helmet which completely masked the head.

In 2266, James T. Kirk and Spock donned engineering suits to extract an power rod from the power unit of the USS Enterprise. Even though they wore the suits, it was still necessary for them to undergo decontamination after completing the operation. (TOS comic: "Life Form Nonexistent")

The name of this garment is speculative; in the comic Captain Kirk simply describes them as "special clothing".
