A compact disc (abbreviated CD) was a device used to store data on Earth in the late-20th century.
History and specifications
The disc was about as wide across as a human hand. Originally CDs were used to store audio information but were later adapted to store other types information from a computer. (DS9 novel: Bloodletter)
In 1989, Khan Noonien Singh used CDs to store information on the Chrysalis Project's children and Wilson Evergreen's environmental research, which he stole from Gary Seven's Beta 5 computer. (TOS novel: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh, Volume 1)
In the mid 24th century one of Julian Bashir's hobbies included the restoration of ancient audio recording and playback devices, one of which was a CD player. He once demonstrated the size of the CD media used to Major Kira. (DS9 novel: Bloodletter)
