Brateel was a game on The Hub similar to dice.

History and specifics

In 2371, Lieutenant Junior Grade Tom Paris accompanied Lieutenant Tuvok to the Hub to acquire a chemical-supply agent for the USS Voyager, which was crippled due to its core processor being stolen. While Tuvok's efforts were unsuccessful in making any deals with the darksiders of the Hub, Paris out of boredom managed to get into a game of brateel with some core miners. After quickly learning the game, he won some passes to some of the Hub's private clubs which later proved to be useful as they were locations where people did business. Having heard some talk about recent computer thefts, Paris believed it to be related to the theft of Voyager's processor and managed to convince Commander Chakotay to allow him to go to the club with Neelix.

At a club with undesirables, Paris managed to win some rounds of brateel and managed to make a chemical-supply contact and gain an order of ninety quants of corticosteroids and three quants of texteroxide. However Paris's luck ran out when Rep, a fellow brateel gambler, found out that Paris won through cheating and approached him with a few of his friends, forcing him and Neelix to run and split.
