Benchley was a 23rd century pet dog owned by Rear Admiral James T. Kirk's uncle Abner Kirk.

Biography

Benchley was a Bluetick Coonhound. In the 2260s and early 2270s, he lived with the Kirk family on their farm in Riverside, Iowa along with Abner, Hanna Kirk, and Peter Kirk.

By the year 2273, Benchley was described as very old and shaggy. His bark had become more of an aulf sound, but was still loud enough to alert family to visitors. (TOS eBook: Shadow of the Machine)
