The Aritanians are the native inhabitants of Aritani, a planet located somewhere in the Alpha or Beta Quadrant near Federation and Romulan Space.

History and specifics

The Aritanians are a culture of growers and are described as having striking appearances. They are about four feet tall and thin with pale golden faces, red-rimmed purple or violet eyes, streaming silver hair, and sharply upswept brows. They speak with high-pitched voices and are known for wearing hooded cloaks. They do not welcome intervention of outsiders and are a proud people, revering simplicity of life. Despising technology as their ancestors had once worshiped it and destroyed themselves, they had become a culture of isolationists without any form of centralized government, each family caring for its own needs, valuing its autonomy.

In the year 2270, when Aritani was suffering from pirate raiders the Federation offered planetary shields. In truth, however, it had been Romulan forces using Aritani as a base of secret operations and as an uritanium source. (TOS novel: Mindshadow)
