Alnar was a Cardassian who served with the armed forces of the interstellar empire that belonged to their people during the twilight of its existence as a totalitarian state admitted to become a member of the Dominion. Holding the title of gul at this time, Alnar oversaw a salvage operation to obtain data from a scuttled Borg cube within the Badlands and helped their co-leader Deren to run the program as its benefactor.
Biography
Pledged to serve inside the Cardassian Union as an officer within their spacefaring forces, Gul Alnar continued to remain a member of the military after the Detapa Council was overthrown in a coup d'état that their chief military adviser Skrain Dukat had launched to annex his homeworld into the Dominion. Around that time, Alnar became a crucial benefactor to their fellow gul named Deren, who believed that the weapon capabilities of the mysterious tripedal race known as "Species 8472" had the potential to propel Cardassia forwards as the greatest strategic advancement made since the formation of their alliance with the Dominion. To accomplish this objection, Alnar permitted Deren to dispatch their operatives into the Badlands, where an assimilation cube of the Borg Collective had been discovered, drifting and derelict. However, despite repeated attempts to secure the sensor logs, the Cardassians discovered that plasma eddies had ravaged the sphere and rendered its computer cores useless. Undeterred, Deren sent Alnar a subspace transmission reporting the current status of their initiative but assured the officer that this failure should not dishearten them and voiced anticipation for continued support from the other gul.
